Just 10 Things to Help You Save on Dairy Items Part 1

Posted on July 30, 2013 at 10:50 AM Comments comments (0)
Saving money on dairy items such as milk, cheese, butter and eggs isn't always an easy task but it can be done.

.
Milk

Coupons - Watch for coupons from dairies such as Borden's & Oak Farms. However, many times, a local dairy may be cheaper especially if the grocery store chain has it's own dairy like in the case of Kroger. If you drink organic milk or a milk substitute, you will definitely want to keep your eye out for coupons from Horizon, Silk, Almond Breeze & Simple Truth, to name a few. These products are often much higher priced than regular white milk. Sometimes these companies offer printables at their websites as well as newspaper coupons & blinkies.
.
2 Special Promotions - Many stores have special promotions especially in time for Back to School shopping. Some stores may offer free gallons or half gallons if you purchase X amount of milk in a certain time frame but more popular, at least in my neck of the woods, is milk & cereal promotions. This is when you purchase so many boxes of specific cereals, cereal bars, breakfast bars or granola bars and receive a free gallon of milk. So start saving those coupons for cereal and the like to sweeten the deal.
.
3  Ask About Markdowns - Make sure you check with the guys in the refrigerated dairy section about when they mark down overstock milk. Most stores only have so much room to stock milk and other dairy items so to make room for new items, they have to get rid of the older ones before they go bad. My Kroger has such close quarter in the back for milk that they do markdown on all dairy items every Tuesday ( the day before the new sale starts) and Thursday (the day before the big weekend rush starts) after 11am. I know that if I shop around noonish on either of those days, I can get a great deal on markdown milk and many times the expiration date is still weeks away!
.
4 Freeze It - Find a good deal on milk? Freeze it! Yes, you can freeze milk. You will need to put it in another container because it will expand during the freezing process which can lead to big mess.
.
5 Drug Stores - Consider buying milk at the drug stores. Often drug stores stock milk but they cannot turn it over as easily as a grocery store so sometimes their milk is actually cheaper than the grocery store.
.
Eggs

Every 6-8 weeks & Always around Easter - Sale prices on eggs can rotate around every 6-8 weeks but are also seasonal as well around Easter time. Look for coupons from the Incredible Edible Egg website in April. Even some drug stores stock up eggs for $1 a dozen around Easter.
.
7 Oil 'Em Up - When you do find eggs at a great deal, don't be afraid of stocking up. There is a way to save your eggs for several months if you know the trick to keeping air out of the shell. Air gets into the porous shell of an egg to make it go bad. But if you take a dab of mineral oil and coat the entire shell with it, you can preserve your eggs for 8-10 months unrefrigerated if kept in a cool dry place.
.
Sour Cream/Sour Cream Dips

8 Watch Store Brand Sales Rotation - If your store has its own brand of sour cream, watch for a pattern or cycle when the price drops to it's lowest. At Kroger, it's usually a dollar for the medium size container. However during the high side of the cycle, it can be $1.59. So when the price drops to a buck, that's when you buy. You try to buy enough to get you through to the next low cycle.
.
9 Watch for Mark Downs - Like milk, when sour cream doesn't move as fast as the store thinks it will and ends up with overstock, these too will go on some sort of mark down. I have found some great mark downs on sour cream based dips at HEB and on manager's special at Kroger. Since I know that Kroger marks down milk/dairy products on Tuesdays and Thursday, I can often score a some sort of container for under a dollar. Watch for really great deals for sour cream dips right after new year's.
.
10 Keep your eyes out for coupons - Kroger often offers store brand sour cream coupons for about $0.40/1 to its loyal customers. Kroger also tracks its customer's purchases through its store card use. So if you buy a lot of sour cream, you may be sent a coupon for Kroger brand sour cream. Dairy Sour Cream has issued a couple of coupons this year in the Sunday newspaper. Helluva Good Dip offers a $0.75/1 coupon several times each year. These dips are often participating items in Kroger Mega Sales and are under $2 at most Wal-Mart stores.

Just 10 Things That You Should Be Saving Money On

Posted on July 22, 2013 at 6:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Here are 10 Things that are already "in season" or will soon so you can find the cheapest prices of the year:

1 Hot Dogs – Between now and right after Labor Day, if you and your family like hot dogs, then this is the time to stock up. Look for coupons for Oscar Mayer but you should be able to find cheap Bar-S Hot Dogs without the coupon. I found these as low as $0.55 at a smaller independent chain here in the Houston area and then price matched at Wal-Mart.  Watch for good deals on overstocked hot dogs right after Labor Day. This is the time of year that I stock up on great hot dog prices to last me through the winter..

2 Ketchup – Look for printable Heinz coupons at coupons.com and then use them on the stand up packs of ketchup available for $1 at Kroger and $0.98 at Wal-Mart to take home ketchup for under a buck!

.

3 Ice Cream & Ice Cream Novelties – Cadbury/Blue Bunny, Bomb Pops, Mars Ice Cream Novelties such as Twix, Snickers & Dove Ice Cream bars all currently have coupons available. Watch for printable coupons at coupons.com for Popcicle brand. On the frozen yogurt side, you can find great tear pad coupons for Yoplait as well as others. This is a great time of year to stock your freezer up on ice cream treats. One of my favorite coupons of the season was released recently. The $1/2 Minute Maid frozen novelties goes great with 10 for $10 sales on Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade, Cherry Limeade & Orangeade (4 pk cups). My Kroger has these right now for $1 a box.

4. Cereal – Between now and the start of the Back to School season look for great discounts on cereal, especially kid friendly cereal. Kelloggs has a host of coupons out right now. These $0.70/1 coupons go great with a sale at my Kroger store where these cereals are just $1.99 each.

5 Bug Spray – Hot Shot, Glade & Black Flag all have current coupons available to protect you and your family from all sorts of bugs, ants, mosquitoes and others pests. I was recently able to get Hot Shot on a price match from a smaller regional store for just $0.99. Paired with my $1/1 Hot Shot coupon, I brought home a lot of free bug spray!

6 Avocados – There is nothing quite as satisfying as homemade guacamole. And while you may not have a coupon for avocados per se, there are some great deals to be had on these right now.

7 Candy – Lots of candy coupons have been released recently including ones for individual bags of M&Ms, Snickers, Skinny Cow candies, Starburst/Skittles & Nestle Girl Scout candy bars. Use these with some of the clearance mark downs or Buy 2 Get 1 sales at Kroger, to fill your candy closet ahead of lunch box season.

8 School & Office Supplies – As we venture closer to Back to School season, watch for coupons from 3M, Papermate and others to stock up on all sorts of school supplies and office supplies as the lowest prices of the year will begin to pop up on store shelves.

9 Water – You can never have too much water on hand especially if you live in an area that is disaster prone like the Gulf Coast. Watch for sales that bring the cost of multi packs of water down to between $2.99-$1.99.

.

10. Sports Drinks – Look for great deals where you buy X amount of this Sports Drink and get Y amount free.

Ebay Coupon Policy Change

Posted on July 17, 2013 at 11:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Hello Friends!

Thank you to all my ebay customers for keeping me afloat the past couple of years as this is my only constant income at this time.

.

Ebay has changed their coupon policy and as of Sept 1, 2013, I will no longer be able to sell my clipping services on Ebay. Ebay is only going to allow the sale of 25 coupons per month or $100 in coupon value per month, whichever comes first, and no free shipping!

.

I have been told on Sept 1, my posts will be removed and my account could be cancelled or suspended.

.

If you are interested in my clipping services, please feel free to contact me here.

.

I did add a "Contact Me" page soon recently. You can contact me any time even if you just have a couponing question.

.

I think my ebay customers are wonderful and I truly want to continue helping y'all save money! So even if you no longer buy from me, I will be keeping this blog going! I can't say that I have all the answers. But I may have a few tips and hints that you haven't thought of yet. :)

.

Thank you, Corrie

Just 10 Things about BOGO Sales

Posted on June 24, 2013 at 11:40 AM Comments comments (0)

1. All BOGO sales are not created equally! In the past BOGO meant Buy One Get One. It was implied that the second item was free but today that is not always the case. Now many stores have BOGO sales where the second item isn't free but at some sort of a discount. If you have seen the ads for Payless shoe stores, then you know that the second pair is 50% off. A good deal but not free. So read the fine print carefully so you will be prepared before you get to the register.
.
2. Before you open your wallet to a BOGO sale, have a general idea of how much the item costs when it's not on BOGO sale. Sometimes stores will double the price of an item to cover the cost of the second item. In these cases, it's better not to BOGO.
.
3. Many stores will allow two coupons (one per item) on BOGO sales while others will only allow one coupon (for the item you actually buy) and some stores allow one coupon but it can be a $X/2 coupon. Ask your store what they allow.
.
4. Kroger does allow two coupons on its BOGO sales. One of the best deals you can get is when vitamins and supplements are on BOGO sale since they do true BOGO sales where the second item is completely free. My mother takes Osteo BioFlex daily. This stuff can be $17 a package or more so we always get it on BOGO sale at Kroger. Osteo BioFlex frequently has high value coupons so when we see the $5/1 or more coupons, we stock up. We use two coupons (one per item). That's $10 off the price! If the cost is 2 pkgs for $17 on BOGO that means our OOP is just $7, making each package $3.50! An added bonus is that you can save the points on the bottom of the Osteo BioFlex and send them into the manufacturer in return for coupons up to $10/1!
.
5. Many stores will allow you to use a BOGO coupon at a BOGO sale, resulting in two free products. Here is how it works: The manufacturer pays for one of the items thanks to your BOGO coupon while the store pays for the second item due to their BOGO sale.
.
6. Some stores will even allow a $X/1 coupon with a BOGO coupon although many consider it double dipping while others argue that there is nothing saying you have to pay full price on the one you buy. You have to read the fine print on the coupon to make sure you don't violate any of the coupon terms. Some coupons will state that you cannot use them in combination with another coupon.
.
7. Many stores will also allow the use of BOGO coupons on B2G1 sales. This is a great way to really lower costs.
.
8. Most BOGO coupons that I have found personally can be used on B2G1 sales are for energy bars or candy.
.
9. You can get some really good deals if you can combine BOGO coupons with mega sale prices!
.
10. Ready to try out an extreme BOGO deal. If you have purchased coupons in the last couple of months from me then you probably have a BOGO coupon for Skinny Cow individual candy. Kroger in Houston currently has these on a B2G1 sale at the price of $0.79 for Kroger card holders. Buy 6 individual Skinny Cow candy. Use 3 BOGO coupons for Skinny Cow. Your total OOP: $0.79!
.

Here is how it works:

.
Candy #1 - You buy this one! Your cost: $0.79

.
Candy #2 - BOGO coupon - Manufacturer pays for this one

.
Candy #3 - B2G1 Sale item - Store pays the cost.

.
Candy #4 - BOGO coupon - Manufacturer pays for this one

.
Candy #5 - You buy this one... sorta. Your Cost: $0.79 (don't worry - you will have an overage to take of the cost)

.
Candy #6 - BOGO Coupon - Manufacturer pays for this one plus B2G1 Sale item so Store pays overage of $0.79 which covers the cost of Candy #5.

.
Total OOP: $0.79 (About $0.13 per candy!)

First, load the e-coupon at www.kroger.com for $0.60/2 Oscar Mayer Bologna to your Kroger card. The bologna is normally $1.99 but with the mega sale going on when you buy 4 participating products, Kroger will knock a buck off the price. Now here's how you work the deal to include the catalina. Buy 4 Oscar Mayer bologna. The e-coupon if loaded to your card will come off automatically at the register. Your OOP will be $3.40 But you will get back a coupon for $3. This makes your bologna just $0.10 each.
.

Use your $3 Catalina Coupon.Your OOP will be $1 (since the e-coupon already was applied during the 1st transaction). You'll get back another Catalina coupon for $3. Each package basically will cost you just $0.25 with this 2nd transaction.
.

.

3. Ken's Salad Dressing - These are also a part of the Kroger Mega Sale this week. Stores in the Houston area have these listed for $0.99 after the mega sale price decrease. Use your $1/1 Ken's Dressing (16 oz) to bring these home for free. (Remember you have to buy 4 mega sale items to get the price break. They don't have to be four of the same item. You can mix and match!)
.

4. Nutella - I am so surprised to see this a part of the Kroger Mega Sale. Back in April, $1/1 Nutella coupons were released. I love Nutella but I normally cannot afford it. I haven't had it in years!! I have never seen the stuff on sale before so I didn't save any coupons for myself. Normally the small jars run $3.49 but with the mega sale price break the price drops to $2.49. Use this $1/1 coupon to bring them down to just $1.49 per jar!!
.

5. Del Dixie Pickles & Pickle Relish - Keep your eyes peeled at the sales paper of smaller grocery chains as here in the Houston area, these are popping up dirt cheap at smaller regional grocers. It could be the same in your area as well. (Remember if Wal-Mart is closer, save the drive and price match it!) Here in Houston, Foodtown has the Del Dixie Hamburger Dills & the Del Dixie Pickle Relish for just $0.99 a jar. Use the $0.55/1 to bring them down to just $0.44 per jar. HEB also has the Del Dixie Pickle Relish on sale for $0.91. This $0.55/1 coupon will make it just $0.36!
.

6. Nescafe Taster’s Choice 7ct Single Sticks - Wal-Mart has these for $0.98 & HEB has them for $0.88. Use your $0.55/1 coupon to knock these down to as low as $0.33 a pkg.
.

7. Hills Bros. Iced Coffee - These mix with milk sticks are sorta hard to get stirred in to where they don't taste a bit gritty but good in a pinch. Wal-Mart carries the Hills Bros Ice Coffee for $1.48. Use your $0.35/1 coupon to bring the price down to $1.13. You may do better at a store that has doubling and tripling!
.

8. All Laundry Detergent - Kroger has these on sale for $2.99. Use your $1/1 to make it just $1.99. That's a stock up price in my book!
.

.

10. Mott's For Tots Apple Juice - Get a big jug of this for just $1.88 at Wal-Mart. Use your $1/1 coupon to bring it home for just $0.88.

.

Just 10 Things About How to Roll A Coupon Thru Multiple Transactions to Save Even More!

Posted on June 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM Comments comments (0)

1. If you read various couponing blogs, you may have heard someone ask if a certain coupon will "roll." Usually this refers to a Catalina like promotional coupon for dollars off a next purchase after buying certain qualifying or participating items.  The person is usually asking if they can "roll" the coupon they just got back for participating in the promotion to help pay for another transaction for the same deal they just purchased.
.
2. Most Catalina coupons of this variety do indeed "roll" when available at Kroger & it's affiliated stores. These are some of my favorite deals!
.
3. Basically what you are doing is combining a special promotion with your coupons in order to get another coupon which can be used to pay for another set of goods which will then yield yet another coupon to help pay for more groceries. Did I lose you yet?
.
4. First, let's set up the premise with a sales promotion that is currently going on at Kroger and its affiliated stores this week. This is a General Mills promotion in which if you buy 5 participating products, you will be given a catalina coupon for $5 at the register once you have paid. This catalina coupon can be used on your next purchase.
.
5. Stores offer Catalina coupon promotions as a way to get you back in their store again. Most stores will not honor another store's catalina coupon so basically in order to get your money out of it, you should use it at the store you got it from. However, you can use catalina coupons to purchase anything including meat, dairy and produce!
.

6. This particular GM promotion includes items such as Hamburger Helper, Pillsbury Slice N Bake/Ready to Bake Cookies, Chex Mix, Totino's Pizza and a host of GM Cereals including Cheerios. So what you do is come up with a combination of 5 products, mix n match, that you have coupons for to get the most savings.
.
7. Let me show you how it's done:
.
Transaction #1:
Buy 3 Totino's Party Pizzas @ $1.25 ea & 2 Chex Mix @ $2 ea.
Use $1/3 Totino's Party Pizza (printable) www.facebook.com/totinos/app_208195102528120
Use Two $0.50/1 Chex Mix (printable) www.coupons.com
Cost Before Coupons: $7.75
Cost After Coupons: $5.75
Your OOP (Out of Pocket): $5.75
Received Back: $5 off next purchase (Catalina Coupon)
.
Transaction #2
Buy 3 Totino's Party Pizzas @ $1.25 ea & 2 Chex Mix @ $2 ea.
Use $1/3 Totino's Party Pizza (printable) www.facebook.com/totinos/app_208195102528120
Use Two $0.60/1 Chex Mix (printable) http://www.pillsbury.com/coupons-promotions/
Use $5 Catalina Coupon
Cost Before Coupons: $5.75
Cost After Coupons: $0.75
Your OOP (Out of Pocket): $0.75
Received Back: $5 off next purchase (Catalina Coupon)
.
Transaction #3
Buy 3 Hamburger Helper @ $1.50 ea & 2 Ready to Bake Cookies @ $2 ea
Use $0.75/3 Hamburger Helper SS 4/21 or SS 6/2
Use $1/2 Pillsbury Refrigerated Baking Items SS 5/19
Use $5 Catalina Coupon
Received Back: $5 off next purchase (Catalina Coupon)
Received Back: $5 off next purchase (Catalina Coupon)
.
Transaction #4
Buy 3 Hamburger Helper @ $1.50 ea & 2 Ready to Bake Cookies @ $2.50 ea
Use $0.75/3 Hamburger Helper  SS 4/21 or SS 6/2
Use $1/2 Pillsbury Refrigerated Baking Items SS 5/19
Use $5 Catalina Coupon
Your Cost Before Coupons: $9.50
Your Cost After Coupons: $2.75
Received Back: $5 off next purchase (Catalina Coupon)
.

8. Now in 4 Transactions you have paid a total of $11. That's your OOP! And you have brought home: 6 Totino's Party Pizzas, 4 bags of Chex Mix, 6 Hamburger Helpers & 4 Ready to Bake Cookies (which freeze for at least six months really well!). And you still have a $5 Catalina Coupon that you can use another transaction either thru the promotion or just buying regular groceries.
.
9. If you include the final $5 Catalina coupon into your calculated savings, here is the breakdown of what you would have paid for each item:
.
Totino's Pizza: FREE with an overage of $0.08 per pizza for a total overage of $0.50
Chex Mix: $0.45 ea
Hamburger Helper: $0.25 ea
Ready to Bake Cookies: $1 ea
.
10. If you decide to "roll a coupon" thru multiple transaction, you may not want to do a bunch of transactions in one trip. Multiple transactions can really slow a checker down. Some checkers are expected to have a certain quota of customers or speed during the checking process. Combine that with a checker who may not be the most coupon friendly person and your trip could be a real hassle.
.
Because I live really close to my Kroger, I pass by it several times a day. I will do two transactions in one trip, maybe three if a really nice checker is on duty, but rarely four. I try to pick times when the store isn't packed like at store opening. I also know all the cashiers and wouldn't dream of hitting them with a bunch of my weirdo transactions when they are super busy. However, because of my close vicinity to the store, I can also roll this coupon a couple of times in the morning and then again in the evening when other cashiers are on the floor.

1. Dip - $0.75/1 Helluva Good Dip - Wal-mart in Houston has these for $1.38. This coupon will make them $0.68 ea.
.

2. Cheese - $1/2 Kraft Big Slice Cheese - Wal-Mart in Houston has these for $2.48.  Buy 2 and use this coupon to bring the price down to $1.98 per pkg. If you like those big deli slices of cheese, you'll love this deal.
.

3. Hot Dogs - $0.75/2 Oscar Mayer Wieners - Both Wal-Mart and HEB in the Houston area have Oscar Mayer Wieners on sale for $1.50 a pkg.  Buy 2 with an OOP of just $2.25 or a cost of around $1.13 per pkg!
.

4. Iced Tea - $1/1 Gold Peak Tea - Wal-Mart in Houston has the big carafes of Gold Peak Sweet Tea for just $1.97 each. Use your coupon to bring it down to just $0.97 per carafe!
.

5. Ketchup - $0.50/1 Heinz Ketchup - Both Wal-Mart & Kroger in Houston have stand up pkgs (not bottle but big foil like packets) for $1. Use this coupon to get 50% savings and drop the price to just $0.50 each. That's a stock up deal in my book.
.

6. Pie - $0.60/1 Edwards Pie Singles - Wal-Mart in Houston has these for $2.18 each. You get two pieces of pie in each pkg. Use your coupon to bring the price down to just $1.58 per pkg. If you have a store that doubles this high, you may find an even better deal.
.

7. Pizza - $0.75/1 Jack's Pizza - Wal-Mart in Houston has these for $2.98 per pizza. Use your coupon to get them for just $2.23 per pizza. These pizzas look comparable to Tombstone.
.

8. BBQ Sauce - $1/2 Garland Jack's Secret Six BBQ Sauce - Kroger in the Houston area has these for just $1 each. Buy 2 and use your coupon to bring the price down to just $0.50 each wyb 2 for a 50% savings not including your Kroger savings!
.

9. Pepperoni - $1/2 Hormel Pepperoni Slices - Kroger in Houston has the big slices of Hormel Pepperoni for $1 each right now. Use your coupon to cut the price in half wyb 2! We love these as they do not have to be refrigerated but they get a bit greasy if not in the frig. These are great for homemade pizza or to dress up cheap pizza. We get a loaf of overstocked French Bread on bakery markdown, top with leftover spaghetti sauce, cheese and these big pepperoni slices for a quick and cheap dinner anytime. These go on sale about every 6-8 weeks at Kroger!
.

10. Microwave Dinners - $1/1 Hormel Compleats - Wal-Mart in Houston has these for $2.18 each. Use your coupon to get them for $1.18 each. Kroger in Houston is advertising these for $2.48 each but I don't think that's much of a sale even though these can go for as high as $3.48. Check your store's end caps for displays. If your store doesn't have much storage room, when the sale is finished, those dinners left on the end cap will have to back on the regular shelf. What doesn't fit on the shelves will end up on Manager's Special for as cheap as $1.24 following the end of the sale. Then use your coupon to get these REALLY cheap!

10 Tips Just in Time for Memorial Day Weekend

Posted on May 23, 2013 at 7:15 AM Comments comments (0)

1. No new coupons will be released in this weekend's Sunday newspapers. Traditionally, neither Red Plum nor Smart Source release coupons on holiday weekends. P&G released a special insert two weekends ago.

2. Van Camp's Pork & Beans are on sale 2 for $1 at numerous grocery stores this weekend including Kroger. If you have the recent $0.35/1 coupon, you can bring these home for just $0.15 a can and that's without doubling! That's a stock up price!!
.
3. Watch for sales on hot dogs not just before the weekend but after as well. Often stores will stock up on items like hot dogs before a big 3 day weekend such as Memorial Day. Those leftover dogs, the overstock, will often be put on manager special or clearance on the following Tuesday!
